Minimum Wage Increase for October 2012 Announced

The Government has today confirmed that the minimum wage will increase for adults & apprentices from October, although the current rates will be frozen for 16-20 year olds.

The new rates, payable for pay reference periods that commence on or after 1 October 2012, will be:

  • Adult rate – £6.19 an hour, an increase of 11p (a 1.81% increase)
  • 18-20 year olds rate – £4.98 an hour (no increase from the October 2011 levels)
  • 16-19 year olds rate – £3.68 an hour (no increase from the October 2011 levels)
  • Apprentice rate – £2.65 an hour, an increase of 5p (a 1.92% increase).
